Focusing On The Petty

For the past 99 years, Citgo has owned, used, and leased out Petty’s Island. But in 2020, industry will have vacated and remediated the island, creating a wide open future for the 300-acre island and the opportunity to bring Philadelphia, Camden, and Pennsauken together in the middle of the Delaware River. This future—environmental, cultural, economic—was the focus of this year’s Better Philadelphia Challenge, whose $5,000 prize will be awarded at tomorrow’s Edmund N. Bacon Awards Ceremony

Ed On Ed: Hidden City Chats With Rendell, Set To Receive Bacon Prize

Former Mayor and Governor Ed Rendell will on Tuesday receive the 2014 Edmund N. Bacon Prize, given annually to someone for their accomplishments in planning, development, design, and community improvements. Rendell’s advocacy and investment in infrastructure earned him this year’s Prize. Hidden City co-editor Brad Maule talks with him about Bacon, water mains, Penn’s Landing, preservation and more in this Q&A
