National Lager Day Beer/History Tour–SOLD OUT

December 16 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$30 Hidden City members (become a member here)
$35 General Admission

Please note: A beer at each of the bar/brewpub stops is included with the ticket price

Join us for an afternoon of Philly beer history, and since listening is thirsty work, we’ll be stopping to drink a few pints along the way. Our excuse (not that we really needed one) is the celebration of National Lager Day, and it so happens that the very first lager beer in America was brewed in Northern Liberties.

Brewery historian Rich Wagner will give us the scoop on this delicious “Philadelphia First” came about, plus we’ll visit the former locations of Schmidt’s and Ortlieb’s, and talk about their rise and fall. We’ll also take a look at a couple brewery buildings that are still standing. Between stops, Hidden City Project Director Pete Woodall will fill you in on some of the neighborhood’s history past and present.

But what about the really important part, the beer? We’ll be stopping in the Standard Tap, Urban Village Brewing and Ortlieb’s Bar.

This tour is presented in partnership with Meredith Williams’s Home Brewed Events.

Starting Point: Meet in front of the Maas Building, 1325 N. Randolph St.
Ending Point: Ortlieb’s Bar, 847 N. 3rd St.

Please note that this is a walking tour and we will be covering about 1.5-2 miles on the tour, with frequent stops.
