  • Manayunk’s St. John the Baptist Catholic church is a month away from removing scaffolding from its exterior, revealing its stabilized and refurbished 208-foot steeple. “It is such a strong, close-knit community in Roxborough and Manayunk,” says Rich Van Fossen, the co-chairman of the capital campaign that raised $1 million for the reconstruction effort. “That church means so much to so many people. You’d have to go a long way to find a church in this region that rivals its architectural beauty.” NewsWorks reports that pastor Monsignor Kevin Lawrence has solicited his parishioners’ prayers to eventually be installed within its reascended cross.
