- PlanPhilly covered the Philadelphia City Planning Commission’s annual update on its Philadelphia2035 comprehensive plan last night. Mayor Jim Kenney echoed many of his campaign themes during his remarks, including the imperative to expand recent strides in economic development past Philadelphia’s core neighborhoods. Not ready to indulge the crowd with any specifics just yet, Kenney alluded yet again to his administration’s plans for major new community investments into the park system.
- Manayunk’s St. John the Baptist Catholic church is a month away from removing scaffolding from its exterior, revealing its stabilized and refurbished 208-foot steeple. “It is such a strong, close-knit community in Roxborough and Manayunk,” says Rich Van Fossen, the co-chairman of the capital campaign that raised $1 million for the reconstruction effort. “That church means so much to so many people. You’d have to go a long way to find a church in this region that rivals its architectural beauty.” NewsWorks reports that pastor Monsignor Kevin Lawrence has solicited his parishioners’ prayers to eventually be installed within its reascended cross.
- During the coming weeks Saxbys Coffee will reinterpret the design of its kiosk at 30th Street Station in preparation for the 2016 Democratic National Convention, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Kenneth Hilario.
