- Yesterday morning, South Philadelphia High School, with help from the Lower Moyamensing Civic Association, launched a crowd funding campaign to raise $26,000 for its “greening master plan,” highlighted by a vegetable farm on its 2-acre roof. “The rooftop plan will involve food production zones, perennial beds, extensive vegetation zones, gathering spaces, outdoor classrooms, and solar panel arrays.” A coordinator for the space will also be hired with the funds. - According to Roxborough-Manayunk Patch, several residents are asking the owners of the former Bunting House lot to consider some renderings for a possible replacement project that would still honor the legacy of the historic residence, demolished last year. In the plan, “a mixed-use business plaza aka The Bunting House Plaza” would “be used as a ‘canvas’ to apply a full size mural representation of the Bunting House.”
- The Mural Arts Program’s portrait of Paul Robeson near 45th & Chestnut was rededicated yesterday on what would have been the actor and social activist’s 115th birthday. “Because he meant so much to the world, we knew his image shouldn’t fade,” said Mural Arts’ Jane Golden. “By redoing this mural, by preserving it, it lives on for another 20 years as a beacon of inspiration.”
