There’s behind-the-scenes (a.k.a. the Hidden City Festival) and then there’s behind behind-the-scenes. We’ll be going to both on this Saturday’s photo tour of Germantown Town Hall, Kelly Natatorium and Hawthorne Hall from 9-12. Should be a great morning of shooting led by Hidden City Daily co-editor Pete Woodall.
This bus tour starts at John Grass Wood Turning Co. in Old City, a shuttered workshop has remained intact and essentially unchanged for a century. You’ll also see Shivtei Yeshuron-Ezras Israel, a small converted storefront synagogue from 1909. The tour will include multiple murals throughout Old City and South Philly.
Uri Caine is a musician of astonishing virtuosity and versatility. Coming out of the legendary Philly Jazz scene, his playing is an encyclopedia of styles from Tatum to Evans and beyond. Expect Caine’s interpretations of John Zorn’s Masada Book Two to be an absolute tour-de-force.
