Hidden City Philadelphia and the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia present a Citizen’s Guide to the historic designation process.

REGISTERHERE

Learn how to nominate a building to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, one of the only ways to protect a building from demolition.

Anyone can nominate a building to be considered for the Register, and dozens of beloved Philadelphia landmarks would not be standing today if not for the efforts of concerned neighbors, students, and community organizations.

This two hour workshop led by Preservation Alliance advocacy director Ben Leech will cover significant buildings that are currently unprotected, and what it takes to put together a successful nomination.

We’ll focus our efforts on the West Philadelphia Title & Trust building at 40th and Lancaster Sts. Designed by architect Ralph Smedley, and built in 1897, this ornate beauty isn’t in danger of being demolished but it does (we think) deserve to be placed on the Register. Nominations aren’t completed in a day or even a week, so we’ll be there to help anyone who would like to continue to work on the project after the workshop is over.
